Horizontal Party
This wine tasing theme focuses on one variety of wine. For example, you can focus on Chenin Blanc (2003) and can get it from different wineries. You should visit several producers and vineyards. You could also focus on wine from one specific region or you can mix them all up with other regions.
Vertical Party
A vertical wine party allows you to choose just one variety of wine, but from different years or vintages. You choose only one producer of the wine, which means with a vertical wine tasting party, you'll become more familiar with a specific producer's varietal composition and style.
A good example is featuring wine from Keyes Vineyard from 2002 to 2004. Tasting the same wine but from different years allows your guests to taste how dramatic the changes can be in just a year.
Priceless Party
With this theme, everyone brings different wines at various price ranges, with an objective of having your guests identify the difference between wines at different prices. You can get $10 wines or even more expensive wines.-- it's really up to everyone what price ranges will be available.
Price Point Party
In this theme you choose wines within the same price range, such as under $20 or under $40, or you could go all the way to $100 or more, depending on your budget. What's important is the baseline price is always considered when purchasing the wines.
Big Eight
Four wines are from the white wine category while the other four are from the red wine category. Some people prefer red wine over white wine, and vice versa. By choosing a Big Eight wine theme party, you'll get the top four wines from each category.
For example, for red wine, you can purchase Shiraz, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, and for white wine, there's Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.
Blind Wine Party
With a blind tasting theme, you'll need to remove all the labels from the wine bottles before your guests arrive. Or you could put the wine in wine bags. At a blind wine party, guests won't be able to choose their particular wine since the wines aren't labeled.
By covering the names of the wines, your guests will be more intrigued by what they're drinking.
