Giving the Gift of French Wines

from: Maxx Guide to Wine

No matter what the gift giving occasion, the gift of wine is a great choice. With so much variety and flavors of wines available, you'll have no problem finding a great choice for anyone on your gift list. Of course, giving wine could make gift shopping easier since most of your shopping can be done in one store at one time. Most wine shops will have wine gift bags available to enhance the presentation of your gifts.

Now, from all the choices available, you'll never go wrong by giving the gift of French wine, since French wines are regarded as the ultimate in fine wine. In fact, most of the common names of wines originatated in France, including burgundy and champagne.

Centuries ago, peasants in France made wine to drink since water at that time wasn't palatable. It took until beyond the Middle Ages before wine became of interest to the upper classes. With the nobles starting to enjoy wines, much more research and experimentation was done with grape varieties and the fermentation processes. France is now at the forefront of elevating wine making to an art form.

With the rich, fertile soil in areas of France along with climate variations, the country is ideal for wine production. Thirteen regions produce a huge variety of fine French wines.

French wines do vary in quality and price, like any other wines. Common brands of white, red and burgundy wines can be purchased at any wine shop. For a real special gift, consider searching for some rarer vintages, which you may be able to find from wine sellers online. If you know what you're looking for, do a search for that type of wine vintage and see what results you get.

France wine has always been perceived as being a cut above other wines. Many wine connoisseurs believe that France produces the ultimate in fine wines. Whether this is due to the growing or the production is strongly debated, but most experts agree there's a difference in fine French wines when compared to other wines.

One notable difference in French wines is the label. Most other wines have labels that provide the ingredients of the wine. France, however, has maintained their labels in the same way for generations. French wines still include the location of the winery on their labels as well.

For a special and unique wine gift, you'll never go wrong giving a bottle of French wine. Even receiving an inexpensive French wine will be appreciated simply because it's from France.
