Wine enthusiast in the New York state region who would like to visit wine country have an ideal area right in their own backyard. The Finger Lakes Region of New York State is a great vacation destination, especially for those who love wine and want to learn and experience more about this wonderful beverage.

Though many people assume wine country is mainly in the Napa Valley of Northern California, the reality is there are several areas in Canada and the U.S. that are considered wine country, as well, including the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

If you live in the northeast region of North America, traveling to California wine country may be too costly, however, this doesn't mean you can't experience the wonders of visiting wine country. A bit of research will show you have other options, such as visiting the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

When planning your trip to the Finger Lakes wine country region, there are several factors you should take into consideration, starting with the the weather. California, of course, has year round bright and sunny weather, whereas the weather in New York State can be quite erratic. Thus, the best time of the year to visit the Finger Lakes wine country area is late spring, summer and early fall. Although there are many activities available in the winter, including wine tasting, many more activities, such as ground tours, are available during the peak wine months.

The Finger Lakes wine country area of New York State, has several wine trails you can choose, including the Seneca, Keuka Lake, Cayuga wine trails. Since there are more than a hundred wineries in the area, you'll first need to determine which one's you want to visit to help maximize your time and get the most pleasure out of your trip.

Along with touring local wineries in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, the area has much more to offer. During your research you will be able to investigate events, activities, and festivals you plan to attend. Many wineries provide wine tasting and tours, usually on a daily basis. Other activities include educational courses on the history of wine. The Finger Lakes Wine Festival in July each year is also a major draw.

If you're planning to visit the Finger Lakes wine country, it's a good idea to make accommodation reservations ahead of time. You'll find there are a number of small inns and bed and breakfasts which are perfect for visitors along many wine trails. However, their small size often limits how many reservations they can accept, so you might want to consider staying at one of the many nearby cities along the Finger lakes where hotels and vacation rentals are popular, though they're a bit off the beaten path.

For wine enthusiats who are determined to visit wine country, but are unable to make the trip to Calefornia, the Finger Lakes wine country area of New York State is a superb alterative that provides everything you could ask for in a memorable wine related vacation.
