Some Great Red Wines
from: Maxx Guide to WineBack in the 1990s, a physician mentioned on national TV that drinking red wine helps to reduce heart disease. This statement made all the headlines across the country. The physician cited the relatively lower levels of the disease in France despite their famously high fat diets. Ever since this program aired, red wine's health benefits have been on the minds of the wine consumer.
Perhaps you don't know which red wine to serve at your next dinner party and which food will compliment your choice? Here's a few tips to help you learn which are the best types of red wines available.
Red wines are a classification of wines according to style. The other type of wine, according to style, is white wine. Red wines are generally made from grapes, either from one or more selections of European type of grapes known as "vitis vinifera."
The Art of Wine Tasting
Most often, red wines are classified again into kinds of grape selections. For instance, there are red wines that use one variety of grapes as the main ingredient. Thus, the mixture becomes varietal, which means that a particular red wine was made from a single variety of grapes.
Studies show that red wine in moderatation (one to two glasses a day) lowers the risk of heart attack for middle aged people by as much as 30% - 50%. In addition, red wine may even prevent additional heart attacks in people who've already suffered from one.
Classifying red wines is somewhat complicated. However, if you're intested in trying the best red wines, here is a brief list to help you choose a great red wine for your next dinner party:
1. George Dubroff Morgon
This wine is produced in the famous Beaujolais region of burgundy and it's the only "Cru du Neaujolais" coined with the term "morgonner" to specify a certain style of wine. Young Morgon wines are soft, fruity and go down easy.
This red wine complements just about any dish.
2. Gran Tierra Red
This type of red wine is made in a fruity style which is easy on the tongue for any wine enthusiast. It's made from Tempranillo grape, which is the mystical grape found in Spain's wonderful Rioja wines.
This type of red wine is great with steaks and any rice or casserole dish.
3. Blackstone Merlot
Merlot is an old-world grape grown in the Bordeaux region of France, where it's very popular with most red wine consumers. You can drink Merlot when its young, but it develops still more flavor the longer it ages. This Monterey wine embodies Merlot to perfection -- it's a well-structured smooth wine with plum and fruitcake flavors, touches of oak and firm tannins to produce a flavorful and balanced wine.
These are just three of the best red wines available. But remember, the classiness and quality of red wines are dependent on the variety of grapes used. Thus, great wine products come from quality grapes.
