from: Maxx Guide to Wine

If you've been researching vacation destinations online, it's possible you've come across Paso Robles, California, an area known for being in the heart of wine country. In this region, you can choose from over a hundred wineries to visit. However, wine may not be an interest of yours or you may be looking for other vacation activities. If so, you'll be pleased with the many other options since Paso Robles offers much more than wine.

Paso Robles, California is home to the River Oaks Hot Spring, an area known for its natural, thermal springs. Many use these springs as a way to cure minor aliments, including joint pain. Of course, you don't need to be in pain to enjoy your visit to this popular and historic spa. In addition to indoor and outdoor thermal springs, you'll be able to enjoy a relaxing massage, a beautifying facial, and much more. You can also take advantage of affordable spa packages available.

Paso Robles is also the home of the Pioneer Museum, which is a must visit if you want to learn about the history of Paso Robles. What makes this museum unique is it's old style look and feel. The amazing historical and detailed displays will make you feel as if you've stepped back in time.

If you're planning to visit Paso Robles the first weekend in November, be sure to attend the Annual Paso Gathering where you can watch bit and spir makers, boot makers, and rawhide braiders practice their trade.

Paso Robles is also home to the Carnegie Historic Library Museum, which is also a must visit to learn more about the history of Paso Roles. What's unique about this attraction is you can learn about their history through art. It's actually one of the few museums in the area dedicatedly solely to western art. At the Carnegie Historic Library and Museum, weekend visits are only available by appointment.

Paso Robles has four golf courses located in the area, including the River Oaks Golf Course, Links at Paso Robles, The Paso Robles Club, and the Hunter Ranch Golf Course. Although each comes highly rated and recommended, play the Hunter Ranch Course. In addition to beautiful and well cared for greens, you'll also discover barbeque facilities, private and group lessons, a four-star golf store and an Australian themed clubhouse.

Paso Robles is also the location of Lake Nacimiento, where you can participate in an unlimited number of activities, including boating, fishing, hiking and picnicking. If you're looking for adventure, rent a canoe, kayak or a peddle boat. Nearby, there are public campgrounds and private lodges available for rent. In fact, you could plan your vacation solely at Lake Nacimiento and have a wonderful time.

The area also has a large selection of fine dinning restaurants, casual eating restaurants and unique shops.

All of these area attractions are just a few of the many at Paso Robles, California. As you can see, there's much more than wine for your vaction pleasure. However, you shouldn't miss out on visiting at least one Paso Robles winery. Even better, you can arrange a guided tour of different wineries and vineyards. Believe me, you'll have a great time even if you're not a wine enthusiast.
