Your Paso Robles Trip To Do List

from: Maxx Guide to Wine

If you and your family are planning a trip to Paso Robles, California, and if it's your first visit to the area, you might be wondering what steps you need to take to prepare for your trip.

First, you'll need to decide when you're going to travel to the area. With Paso Robles located in California, you'll find the weather is beautiful year round. However, weather may impact the activities you can participate in. Travelers to the area should visit at least one Paso Robles winery, if not many more since there are many to choose from. The wineries are open year round, but have extended hours during the summer. Lake Nacimiento, home to bass fishing, boating, and much more, has very inviting temperatures in the summer.

Once you've decided on a date for travel, you can, of course, start making your travel arrangements, which will depend on your length of travel. If you live in the State of California, you can likely just hop in your car and go. If you live elsewhere, you'll likely need to make airline reservations. When flying into the area, it's a good idea to rent a vehicle, since there's so much to do and see in Paso Robles.

Another travel arrangement you'll have to make is where you're going to stay. Where you choose will depend on affordability and your personal preferences. Are you planning to spend much of your trip visiting wineries in the area? If so, did you know you can stay onsite? Some Paso Robles wineries do have vacation homes, cottages, guest rooms and onsite bed and breakfast inns for rent. Camping is another option, especially if you're travelling to Paso Robles in an RV. For convenience and a traditional vacation stay, the area is home to nationally operated hotel chains, including Budget Inn, Courtyard by Marriot and Hampton Inns.

As mentioned, you definitely want to rent a car, which can take you to Lake Nacimiento where you'll have a fun filled time by the lake, plus one of the four area golf courses. Taking a horseback riding tour along the river or lake is also a great idea. These are just a few of the many activities you can participate in while visiting Paso Robles. In fact, if you research all the options ahead of time, you'll definitely come up with many more.

When doing your research about Paso Robles, you'll notice the area is often referred to as wine country, which may be the reason why you selected Paso Robles as your next trip destination. If your to-do list includes visiting some local wineries, there are ways to prepare for your tasting adventures. For example, have you decided which winery or wineries you want to visit? Of course, you could wait until the last second to decide, but you'll likely have a better time if you research which wineries are highly rated and recommended.

If you expect to visit more than one winery, such as taking a wine tour, determine your method of travel. Driving around yourself is fine, but it's always good to have a designated driver if you're doing your own tour. A day of wine tasting is a lot of fun, but it can be dangerous if you're not careful and fail to pace yourself. If you're in a group and no one volunteers to be the designated driver, you may be better off taking a guided wine tour. Paso Robles winery tours are offered by the Grapeline, among others.

In the days leading up to your Paso Robles trip, make sure you check the weather and be prepared for the unexpected, such as a rainy day, and pack accordingly.
