Wanna be a Wine Connoisseur?
from: Maxx Guide to WineWine tasting is a new and growing trend that's become part of many college and university communities in Canada and the U.S.
Of course, anyone who grew up in a European country, such as Italy or France, has likely been drinking watered down wine since they were about four years old. In these countries, Catholics drink wine at mass on Sunday and wine is served with every meal. This has been a common practice and tradition for centuries.
However, in North America, drinking wine is usually reserved for special occassions or wine connoisseurs. But wine is now starting to show up in the dormatory rooms and apartments of the younger generation.
If you're interested in being a part of this trend, you'll discover it's not as easy than you might think, so you should start by doing some research. It's not advisable to just visit your local liquor or grocery store and choose random bottles of wine that appeal to you. Start your research online where you'll find a wealth of information on how to determine which wines will suit your taste best.
Since there are hundreds, if not thousands, of different wines, from red to white to sparkling and more, it's best to narrow down a range of wines you want to try. Once you have some knowledge on different types of wine, why not pick up five or six bottles.
While you're at it, get some cheese because this is a great food to enjoy with wine, especially if you're trying out several types of wine. Of course, there's many types of cheese as well -- literally thousands of varieties -- not all of which go well with wine. However, if you do a good job of research, you'll do fine. A good place to find cheese is at health food stores or Farmer's Market.
Having a wine tasting party by yourself might get a bit lonely, so why not invite some friends. Let them know you'll only be serving wine -- no other alcoholic beverage will be allowed. Lay out platters of sliced cheese before hand and get yourself lots of wine glasses since drinking wine from a paper cup will never do.
Once you've put together a successful wine tasting party, you can almost guarantee you'll want to do it again. As you learn more about wine, you'll want to take part in wine tasting events and on your next big date, you'll be able to impress your date by knowing exactly which wine to order.
